Craft Space Makeover Challenge

I am a proud member of the ETSY Greeting’s Team ( The team is full of creative masterminds that both encourage and inspire one another.

Our latest team challenge was a design space makeover. I’m in! I probably have one of the smallest spaces to work with considering I live in a tiny studio by the beach. So I did my best.

The main issue with my crafting space was organization. My desk is tiny! But it gets the job done. I went through the space and grouped things together. All buttons in a jar, all paper in an organizer and all envelopes in a box.

It’s a small change but for me, a big difference.

Medical School Graduation Invitation

**Update: If you are interested in purchasing these invitations customized for your event look HERE**. Also, please be considerate and don't rip off my idea. It's just not school invitationI am in LOVE with my latest work. My boyfriend is finishing residency this June after 11 years of schooling and residency. You can imagine how pleased and proud I am. I am putting together a graduation party later this month and I got a little creative on the invitations.

Considering he is a doctor, I thought prescription pill bottles and an Rx pad invite was fitting. I first got the prescription bottles. Then created some sticker labels modeled after a real prescription and the text is all of his schooling information. Wa-la!

The end result. I have gotten so much great feedback on these and I am looking into...scratch that...I have purchased some prescription bottles for future med-school graduation invitations. Available HEREmed school invitation

It’s Baby and Wedding Season!

I've been a busy lady! It must be baby season because I am working on another order of baby shower invitations. They will be very similar to the last order. Same exact colors but a few more details like a map, a transparent inner envelope (cute!) and the Baby's R Us registration card. These are turning out very nice so far and I will have some pics next week.

In addition, I am working on thank you cards for a wedding. This is a destination wedding in Costa Rica (I will be there May 21-28) and the bride asked me to put together a tropical theme thank you card. This is the result. The cards have been printed so all I have left to do is cut and fold.

Needless to say, it will be a very busy weekend!

Mother's Day!

It’s almost Mother’s Day! So I have put together a card that says “Mother” in a variety of languages. I made several versions of this card since a lot of my friends Mom’s speak other languages. So I made this card with the main mother in English, Spanish and French.

The inside of the card also say’s Happy Mother’s Day! It can be made in any color but I stuck with the blue and lime green. I am very happy with how it turned out.

Unique LA Event

I went to an awesome tradeshow up in LA this last weekend called Unique LA. This was geared towards Etsy type sellers. It is a place for them to showcase their independent designs and products. I went there to do some future vending research and I was so impressed!

I am absolutely planning to exhibit at the December show. I had such a great time. I loved checking out all of the unique, one of a kind finds. I bought some great gifts, talked to some really cool vendors and got some great ideas for the future.

Some of My Favorite Sellers from the Show:

I purchased two beautiful necklaces made from cloth with adorable button accents

Chocolate and Steel
Beautiful and unique silver jewelry that is made from reclaimed silver

Rachel Austin
Beautiful paintings, bright color and lots of bird designs. A lot of the paintings look like something that would fit perfectly in my apartment

Something Sophie
Wonderful line of mineral cosmetics! I bought several items and everything I’ve tried so far, I have loved!

Reverie Studio
Great silver and semi precious stone jewelry. Beautiful pieces and the seller was extremely friendly.

Side Note: I learned how to properly pronounce “Etsy”. Sounds like “Betsy” without the “B”. Good to know :)

I’m in Laguna B! House Party with LMFAO

So for a non card related blog……I went to a really cool party last week at this beautiful mansion in Laguna. I really didn’t know what to expect because my friend Maria who I went to college with was in town and is the one who invited me and didn’t tell me much other than that it was a circus theme.

Anyway, the party was awesome! The house was beautiful! Major props to the event coordinator for pulling this all together. It had so much detail! LMFAO performed….“I’m in Miami bi**h”. Great, Great. They had a cirque du soleil girl on a ring above the pool, a girl with a huge snake, guy with a monkey and a guy doing caricatures. My drawing is below. I also found a pic of Maria and I that is on the 944 website and then a pic of me with the snake….because I’m so brave :) Anyway, figured I would spice up the blog with something different. Hope you like.

Baby Boy Shower Invites

When I was up in San Francisco last week I had lunch with an old friend who is around 5 months prego with a baby boy. She is having her baby shower in June and was nice enough to ask me to put something together for her invitations.

I have been working on putting together 40 of these adorable brown, blue and white invitations. The look really pretty in person. The brown is a very shiny, thick paper and the two little feet prints are actually embossed with a shiny brown look and a really great, smooth to the touch feel. This has been a really fun project so far.

The finalized order will include printed mailing labels and a return address labels all with the same white, blue brown and embossed baby feet look.

Super Cute!

A Take on Traditional Post Office Mailing Labels

I have been tracking a big package on the USPS website (the one with 5 boxes of stationery that was headed to NY) and I was inspired by the simplicity of the preprinted labels you see at the post office. Wa-la. My take on the traditional post office mailing label. I am planning to print out some samples this evening, snap some pics and hopefully post this to my ETSY.

The best part about these cards, other than how cute they are of course is that they are the perfect size for just a quick note and I am able to print four cards per sheet which saves paper. Enjoy!

Tax Not Included

Yesterday was a really big day. I got my sellers permit. For real. You know those signs that you see when you go into the nail salon? My sign even says to display at my place of business. Cooooool!!!

I really didn’t know what to expect. I had some papers that I had received in the mail that had a local office that I could go to and file. I dragged Sarah there on our lunch hour and she waited in the car. Basically I would sum it up to an experience similar to one you would have at the DMV. Screaming children, chairs for waiting and all workers were behind bullet proof glass which made me a little nervous. Were they expecting someone to come shoot the place up and if so, I’m on the wrong side of the glass. Luckily they weren’t that busy and this adorable little man helped me….He seemed really impressed that I had my own business so that made me feel good.

Anyway, so really what this means is that I am legit and now I will have to charge tax on CA orders. Although my accountant said that if I file as a “Wholesale” business instead of “Retail” I will only have to claim taxes but not pay them. I need to check into all of this but I filed as wholesale none the less. Wholesale makes me think of Cost Co. So I’m setting my expectations high and Hello Cupcake will someday be as big as Cost Co. It could happen.
It's the real deal.............
Me and my permit! Yes, I was in the car.

Goal #2- Be a Better Blogger

So I am obviously not a very faithful blogger. I will add this to the top of my to-do list… a better blogger. It’s right below clean out the trunk of my car.

Anyway, so I have made it up to 13 sales which is so awesome! My best customer is actually one of my best girlfriends Mom in NY! She has bought 5 sets of stationery. I was super busy last week, I had been house sitting the week before so I didn’t get home until Tuesday night and then I had 5 orders placed on my ETSY site along with 6 orders from my sister in law for a bridal shower. So all in all I had 11 orders and I was planning for a meeting with a bride to be to talk about save-the dates. The bride ended up canceling the meeting because she has strep throat. Bummer. So I will have to reschedule. Anyway, I have added a pic from the shower because it was so beautiful. My sister in law has great taste!
