Wedding Dress Shopping is Like Working Out*

After we got engaged I was looking forward to starting the dress shopping experience. In August, my Mom flew up to San Francisco for us to go dress shopping together. I had booked appointments at two bridal salons in the city and I left both appointments feeling underwhelmed by what I saw. The only thing I liked even remotely was over of my price range (by around $1,000!). Yet the sales girl continued to call my phone on a weekly basis to see if I was interested in the dress. One time she even called to tell me that the price of silk was rising and that the dress was likely to GO UP in price! Mind you this was a dress that was also two seasons old. I told her that there was no doubt in my mind that this was neither the dress nor the designer for me and asked her to stop calling me.

In September, Christoph and I went to visit some friends in New York City. While I was there I went dress shopping with his cousin. I found a dress I really liked but wasn’t ready to pull the trigger without showing it to my Mom first. I spent the next three months trying to track it down that dress!

I was finally able to track it down and knew that is was going to be at a trunk show in San Diego. So I booked a flight down to So. Cal, hopped in a car with my Mom and sis in law, drove two hours each way, tried on the dress and bought it on the spot!

I am not going to spoil the surprise of which dress I picked. I will say that it came from THIS line and the pic above is from the company’s website.

Things they don’t tell you about dress shopping:
-You may find a dress online you want to try on, and then find a store that carries the line, but they may not have the style of dress you wanted. Call in advance!
-Trunk Shows: They still won’t have every dress you saw online! Call in advance to request what you want to see.
-Sales people will ooh and aww over everything you try on. Bring someone who will give it to you straight.
-They only have dresses in size 8-10 in stock. Get ready to be pinned up all over the place.
-Wear undies that you are comfortable standing around in.

Wedding Dress Shopping is Like Working Out* because it is draining!
