Reality Check

The wedding flower saga continues.A few weeks ago I went to the San Francisco Flower Mart to pick up some blooms and try my hand at flower arranging. Funny. Somehow along the wedding flower path I blurred the line of thinking that I can do anything I put my mind to and reality.Floral arranging is not in my future. Not at all. As silly as it may seem, I’m so glad that I attempted to do some arranging on my own months in advance of the wedding. I’ve gained a whole new respect for the art and moving forward I will have no problem paying and leaving the flowers to the professionals! It’s worth it.It’s not like my work was horrible, but professional, it was not.P.S.- I’ve found a professional who will be doing the wedding flowers. I can’t wait to tell you about them!

The Shoe Fits

Let’s be honest. If I had an endless amount of money to spend on the wedding I would likely go with this beautiful pair of custom made Christian Louboutin heals. The green with the blue sole! Absolute perfection. I need a moment to pick my jaw back up off the keyboard. But alas, I’m just a regular gal on a budget. However, that doesn’t mean that I have to compromise on style!

A few weeks ago I was doing a little shopping down by Union Square and I stumbled in to the DSW shoe store. I came across this beautiful pair of Badgley Mischka heals. They are a pale gold with a sparkly heal. I bought them on the spot. They were a decent deal considering their importance ($129) and I think they are just beautiful. If you like them, you are really in luck because they are currently available on Rue La La for $99!

Reality as I see it From San Francisco

As my brother who was visiting last weekend said, “It’s like you live in a fantasy land. This place is not real life.”

Sometimes I take living in San Francisco for granted so when I came across this editorial in today’s San Francisco Chronicle it made me stop, think and put things back into perspective. If you live in San Francisco, I hope it has the same outcome for you. If you don't live here you should find the beauty in your own city and then come visit SF!Just count yourself lucky to live in San Francisco

San Franciscans, we live in a great city and it does have its problems, but can we please put a day aside to just let people live their lives again?

Stop the whining and criminalizing human behavior, stop the needless arguments with neighbors, and maybe ask them their names and have a conversation before litigation. We all might be better off for it.

I know there are a million things wrong here, but I believe there are twice as many that are right. Which one do you think is healthier to focus on? I think once we set aside petty differences, we will then to our surprise be able to solve problems without much difficulty.

And this is all coming from someone who is as negative, spiteful and arrogant as anyone else you'd hate to ask about bicycles, Happy Meals or doggy rights. That's what is great about this place, that even someone as jaded as me will sooner or later want people to enjoy the city as much as I do.

So get out, look around and realize that less than a million people get to call San Francisco home. You are one of the lucky ones. - Matthew Novak, San Francisco

The Fun Part: Bachelorette Party Planning

Wedding planning is not all puppies and rainbows; but there are some tasks that are fun from the get go. The bachelorette party falls into this category.

You can put me anywhere with my best girlfriends and we will no doubt have a memorable time. For my bachelorette party, I decide that Austin, TX would be the destination. Austin is such a vibrant city. If you’ve never been, I’d highly recommend it.

Let me be clear. I’m not looking for a night on the town in hopes that guys will buy us shots. I refuse to wear a tiara, veil, sash or any other common future bride adornments that seem to make its appearance at bachelorette parties.

What I do want is a retreat. I want a place where my girlfriends and I can relax, bask in the sun, drink a margarita or two, and not have to get dolled up to go out and mix with others. Instead, I’m looking for some solitude and privacy for us girls to enjoy each others company. Often times, when I fly to Texas to visit my girlfriends, the most fun is had before the night even begins. Before dinner, before the drinks, the time spent getting ready and just laughing with your friends. That’s the best. That’s what I’m hoping to have for an entire weekend as my bachelorette party.

We rented a “tree house” on the Guadalupe River that is surrounded by giant cypress trees. To me, this sounds like a slice of heaven in the middle of the Lone Star State.

Drinks, anyone?

A few months back I went to a San Francisco blogger met up. It was organized by Katie, Alicia, Caitlin and Taylor who write for some of my favorite blogs. I decided to go but was slightly nervous that I would end up with déjà vu from this experience.

I was wrong. So wrong. That evening, I met so many fantastic individuals. Everyone was looking to mix, meet and make new friends.

Next week will be the second blogger meet up. Mark your calendars. You don’t have to be a blogger to come…..welcome blog readers!

Does That Make Me Crazy?

I’m still not over the thought of wedding flowers so I took a recent trip to the San Francisco Flower Mart. I decided I would pick up a random assortment of green, white and yellow flowers and just see what came together. Would you think I was crazy if I told you the thought has crossed my mind to attempt doing the flowers for my wedding? I wouldn’t blame you.

I wish I could tell you what types of flowers I got, but alas, as you know my flower knowledge is lacking. I do know that I got some ranunculus in white and yellow (I know what they are because I asked) and some baby’s-breath.

My goal was to spend no more than $40 but I went slightly over and came in at $42. I got A LOT of flowers! Probably somewhere around 10 small bouquets. My house will be filled with beautiful blooms for the next week!

I’ll post some pictures of the arrangements soon.

Wedding Flowers

In the past, I’ve never really given much thought to flowers. Don’t get me wrong, I like receiving them as much as the next girl. I think they are pretty to have around the house and they smell nice, but it stops there. I don’t have a favorite flower and if put to the test, I could probably only name 15 flowers.

That all stops now. For my wedding, I’m forced to think about flowers. Flowers are a fairly important element for the big day. They provide color, scent, ambiance and it’s one of things guests will notice. The bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages will be in many of the most important pictures so I want it done right. But at what cost?

Flowers are expensive! Understandably so. I’m currently looking into a few vendors and hope to have this task crossed off my list soon.

An Estate Sale Not to be Missed!

If you were on the fence about going to this estate sale that 7x7 Magazine was tweeting about this morning....GO! Go now, go quick!

I went on my lunch break and found some amazing pieces!

Two Dresses:Dress on the left: A tweed and wool fabric with a very subtle red and white print. I think should fit me just right
Dress on the right: Project! It has the structure, the style and potential to be a beautiful Jackie O inspired dress. Only problem is that it is about 10 sizes too big for me. I am going to attempt to tailor it myself and will keep you posted.

Two Purses:A fantastic white wicker purse with gold hardware
A beautiful red leather purse with silver hardware

A broach:Bow! Need I say more?

Anyway, they have way more items than I was expecting. Furniture, vintage hats and jewlrey, china, books, shoes and so much more. The prices were very reasonable for some items and slightly over priced for other. You win some, you loose some. I paid $45 for all five items. I think I won them all.

Estate Sale Info: Friday and Saturday 9 AM -5 PM at 10th and Howards, San Francisco (St. Joseph's Church)

5 Months To Go!

When we first got engaged, the hardest part for me was getting started. Planning a wedding is overwhelming! As of today, we are officially five months out from the big day. Rather than dwell on what’s left to accomplish, I figured I would get you up to speed on what we’ve been able to check off so far.

- Got Engaged
- Basked in the engaged life
- Had an engagement party
- Chose wedding date
- Booked a wedding venue
- Chose and booked a photographer
- Chose caterer and then booked them
- Determined a color scheme for the wedding
- Determined the guest list
- Found a wedding dress
- Determined wedding party
- Designed a wedding website
- Designed and sent out save the dates
- Set up block hotel bookings
- Lost sleep over taking engagements
- Took engagement pictures and had them featured on Wedding Chicks!!!
- Registered for gifts
- Found and booked an amazing team to help with this wedding planning process

Oh, you know, we only have around 100 more things to take care of. But it will happen. I think it’s safe to say that the wedding posts are about to be kicked up a notch or two or three.

It will all come together in the end. It most certainly will.

The Business Card Card

Business cards leave much opportunity for creativity yet oftentimes they are very forgettable. I think business cards are the paper version of a first impression.

I always collect business cards at craft fairs and events even if I don’t buy from the person. I take them home and then decide if I am interested and want to do more research on what they are about.

These are some of the business cards I’ve collected over the past few months:If the cards aren’t memorable, chances are my interest stops there.

These are two that really stick out to me: Left is Matchbook Magazine and right is a sales persons! For my Hello Cupcake business cards, I wanted to make something that was memorable, informative but also gave some clue as to what Hello Cupcake is about.

Front:I came up with Hello Cupcake Business Card Card because I will never tire of a hand written note.

Inside: The Hand Written Business Card:Hand written notes make you feel special and they are memorable. Hello Cupcake is also a stationery line! So it seemed very fitting to me that my business cards be a mini card for me to give someone after we meet.

Back: The Information:What do you think?

Crazy person taking pictures at the dog park! These pictures were taken at the dog park where I met the sweetest dog “Angel”! Having a blog sometimes means taking pictures at odd times.....but the lighting outside was so nice!
