Surprisingly I’ve been to Florida nearly a dozen times! Mainly Orlando….Hello Walt Disney World!!!!! It was a lot to take on a commit to design one new card each week, but we are on week six and I’ve kept it up!This year I’ve set out to map all 50 US States with text! This is state 6 of 50.

State 1: California
State 2: Texas
State 3: New York

Fashionably MADE: Peter Pan Collar Necklace

I had this grand idea in my head that I was sure was going to be my next big money maker. You see, Peter Pan collars are pretty popular these days so I decided to go my hand at making a Peter Pan collar necklace made with leather. Genius, right? Well, to be honest, the end result wasn’t quite as fantastic as the picture I had in my head. But it worked with this outfit so I decided to give it a go!Blazer: Cynthia Steffe, Sweater: Yoon, Collared Shirt: Gap, Pants & Purse: Kate Spade, Necklace: Stacy, Shoes: Steve Madden, Bracelets: David YurmanI created the collar with leather than strung it on a silver chain. So, what do you think? Fashionably MADE fail? The reaction from my friends was mixed. My favorite comment was that the outfit was a little weird, but I’m a little weird so it just works.

Top picture: Call me a nerd, but I thought I would do a little leap for leap year!

Having Way Too Much Fun

If you were at the Gap and Rue event last week and Sarah (pictured right) offended you, then….I’m not sorry. Because if you can’t handle my friend than you probably wouldn’t like me much either. That girl’s a trip and you never know what’s about to come out of her mouth. It’s my favorite.

Sarah is one of my besties and she was in town to take care of some details for her upcoming San Francisco wedding. To kick off the visit, we went to the event which was a blast btw! Congrats to the awesome girls of Rue Magazine for their much deserved success and cheers to Gap in seeing the potential for success when teaming up with rad ladies!

FYI- Be sure to visit Shop Sweet Things blog for a great recap of the event! Thanks Jeanne :)

United Words Project: New Mexico

I was a junior in high school when we moved to Texas in 1999 from California (you can imagine how fun that was). I stayed in Texas for college because I could pay the in state residency cost of tuition. Shortly after graduating in 2005, my Dad had a job transfer that took him to New Mexico. By that time I had moved myself back to California so it didn’t affect me. I wasn’t so excited about visiting New Mexico. I thought it would be a total snooze fest actually. I was wrong. Visits in the summer would consist of boating trips and visits in the winter would involve a trip to a local mountain for some snowboarding. It was actually on one of those trips to New Mexico where I had the idea for Hello Cupcake! My Dad has since moved out of New Mexico and I will surely miss my visits. Luckily, I do have a bulk supply of Hatch Green Chili sitting in my pantry should I ever need my New Mexico fix. This year I’ve set out to map all 50 US States with text! This is state 5 of 50.

State 1: California
State 2: Texas
State 3: New York
State 4: Utah

I’m always looking for new ways to organize my cute (yes, cute) clutter. Trays are great for carrying food from one room to another and they make organizing more stylish! I recently shared a DIY tutorial over on The Glitter Guide to design your own tray! The best part is that the entire project came in for under $20!Hop on over to The Glitter Guide for the step by step tutorial!

Que Sera Sera

If you follow along on twitter, than you already knew that we missed the first flight of our vacation (MIA -> SFO). Normally no big deal, except when you’re flying to a super remote island that only has one flight going there every OTHER day! So what’s to do? Hang out in Miami for two days while you wait for the next flight.

To sum it up in South Beach: We stayed HERE, ate HERE (omg, best $6.50 spent. Tip: when traveling without an itinerary ask a “local what’s good here?”), drank too many of THESE and we laid out in an effort to blend with the locals who have a serious case of tanorexia.

So what did we learn from all this? Between the two of us, one will be a dedicated time keeper who makes sure we get where we need to when we need to so we don’t miss flights (this was not the first flight we’ve missed). But if you have to be stranded somewhere for two days, Miami is not a bad place to be!

Sometimes I think we have the best time. It’s not a competition, or a race, just a statement. I’ve found my perfect partner and to put it simply, being with him makes life so fun. This week we’re headed out of town for vacation! We’re off to Grenada (Caribbean) for a few days. Christoph’s brother lives there at the moment so we’ll be staying with him and his GF. The agenda will consist of yoga, scuba diving, hiking, a tour of a chocolate factory and some R&R on the beach!

PS- Posts will be light this week as I’ll be vacationing but……I have an awesome DIY lined up for next week!

In any case, I thought it would be fun to pull together a few item’s I would love to have!

Fashionably MADE: Blue Blouse (Made with a pattern!!!!)

You remember that episode of Friends where Phoebe teaches Joey how to play the guitar? “Now, I don't know the actual names of the chords, but I made up names for the way my hand looks while I'm doing them. So this is, ‘Bear Claw’ and this is ‘Old Lady.’
Over the holidays I spent quite a bit of time crafting. My sis in law had mentioned that she wanted to learn how to sew. Me being the self-taught, learn as you go type decided I could teach her. Much like Phoebe’s method, I made it up as we went along and this was the end result. Pants: Rich & Skinny, Blouse: Stacy & Mom!, Necklace: Kate Spade, Shoes: Tahari, Purse: HoBo

Unfortunately, my Mom, who is extremely talented with the sewing machine had to listen in and save the day a few times when the project started spinning out of control. She took it upon herself to teach me how to use a pattern the very next day and this blue blouse with red details was the result!
In short I love it! It has sleeves (that’s a Fashionably MADE first) and when I wore it, a total stranger went nuts over it. I’m talking, complements up the wazoo! Lesson learned: USE A PATTERN (touché Mom! You were so right!)

United Words Project: New York

It wasn’t until I was an adult that I took my first trip to NYC. New York was one of those places that I had dreamt about visiting for years!!!!! I ran around the city packing in as much as I could: Canal Street, Wall Street, Ellis Island Ferry, eating at a real NY deli, pictures with The Naked Cowboy and I was there for a business trip mind you!Since Christoph and I started dating in 2007 I’ve been very fortunate to make an annual trip to NYC for vacation. He has family there and went to med school in the city so he certainly knows his way around! I truly love NY and haven’t forgotten that feeling I had the first time I visited! This year I’ve set out to map all 50 US States with text! This is state 3 of 50.

State 1: California
State 2: Texas

What One Day Can Do

As usual, I have a weekend to do list that is three pages long and as usual, I have a husband who will be spending much of the weekend working. The good news, we recently switched around our schedules so that we both have Thursday’s off to spend together. It’s amazing what one day can do for your wellbeing. Yesterday we did this.

Obviously if you’re following the blog you know that yesterday was a HUGE day for me having had one of my Etsy items shown on! I received so much awesome support on the blog, Twitter and Facebook! Thank you!

This week was also a big week for the A Savvy Event team as we launched A little Savvy Event which will offer event and party design for expectant moms and children of all ages!

Happy weekend!

Step Aside Fear of Failure! I’m on MSN!

If you had told me in January of 2011 that my Prescription For Love Valentines would catch the eye of an editor at I would have stared at you in disbelief. And yet, here we are today! One of my designs is being shown on MSN!!!!!I have to be honest though. I truly had to overcome some fears of failure to get to this point. Here’s why:

In June of 2009 Christoph finished residency and I threw him a small party and came up with the idea to make prescription bottle invitations. The guests loved the invitations! But I was a chicken and I sat on the idea for 18 months!

For 18 months I was scared to take the leap and place a bulk order for prescription bottles. I was afraid no one would buy them and I would be stuck with 100’s of amber colored vials.

In early January of 2011, I decided to just give it a shot and bought 200 prescription bottles. I listed them on Etsy and within two weeks I had sold 55 bottles! I’ve since sold 500+ (I’ve lost count) and here we are today!!!!

So, what’s holding you up? Are you sitting on the next big idea or product because you’re too afraid to take a risk? Do it! You never know what might happen!
