Working Lately

Photobucket

I promise that I’m working.  The Feather Love Photography Workshop has been awesome so far.  Probably the first workshop in history that took place in the pool.

Occupational hazard in my line of work: Getting a sunburn*

*Don’t worry; I’m being super careful!

San Diego Here I Come!

Photobucket Photobucket
Photobucket

I'm headed to San Diego for the rest of the week to work on the Feather Love San Diego Workshop!  Part of my excitement is around the fact that I will be staying at this beautiful home (as seen on Apartment Therapy)!  Between all the work I plan to make some time to lay by the pool and soak up some fun!

Hope your week is going well!

Take the Plunge: One Piece Bathing Suits

Beach1F Photobucket Photobucket I’ve been a two piece bathing suit gal for the last 20+ years – but lately I’ve had my eye on some seriously chic one piece suits!

The one pieces by Agua De Coco are like waterproof works of art and has me seriously considering clicking on the add to cart button! Even more tempting is that you can save 20% on all regular price suits with coupon code OPRAH99 or if you happen to be a size 2-4, the last suit pictured above can be yours for half the regular price!

So, will you be taking the plunge on a one piece this bathing suit season?

Thursday's Are For Lovers: And We're Back in Business!

Thursday Thur1F

Thur2F Life has been so busy as of late so it has been a while since I’ve shared a “Thursday is For Lovers”, because well, the past few Thursdays I’ve either been out of town or Christoph has been working!

But I’m happy to report that we are back in business! Last Thursday we had tickets to the Giants game. Before the game we paid a visit to Little Skillet. If you haven’t checked it out I would highly recommend it. It’s really hard to go wrong with Chicken and Waffles, plus I like food that you eat with your hands. It’s more fun that way. One gripe though - they dilute their maple syrup which is a total bummer. I’d be willing to pay more money for the real thing.

After sitting on the curb, eating with our hands we headed in to the game. They lost that day. Christoph is blaming it on the fact that he still hasn’t figured out the right shirt to wear to games. Because clearly the Giant’s wins rest solely on what he wears. You can thank him for the 2010 World Series victory because he wore the same shirt game after game without allowing me to wash it. Seriously, you’re welcome.

Feather Love Shoot in Rue Magazine

Rue1F
Back in February I began working with Noa of Feather Love Photography on her Artist Workshops - the first of which I participated in was in the Bay Area (more my experience HERE).  I am deep in the planning process of the next Feather Love workshop which will be in San Diego next week.   It was such a pleasant break to see the published images of the Rue Magazine shoot that we worked on at the last Workshop published (pg. 54-56)!

Check out the latest Rue Magazine HERE!

P.S. - From a Hello Cupcake PR standpoint, can we pause to celebrate for a moment?  My client is in Rue Magazine! Woot!

Rude Little Sucker

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket I move like molasses when it comes to decorating my house (we’ve been here almost three years and many walls are still bare) but eventually I’ll give you guys a real tour. In the meantime, my collection of indoor plants has been increasing in size as of late! A few weeks back I showed you my mini garden and I’m happy to report that my vegetables are doing awesome!

My indoor plants have also been thriving for some time now. I’ve got orchids and succulents, including that jerk on the bottom that I consider to be my little weirdo plant. I bought it when it was tiny (think normal succulent that was about 1 inch tall) and now that bad boy is about 6 inches tall! It lives in a pot that is really too small for its size and yet it just continues to grow. It’s as if it’s giving me the bird every day. I love that silly plant.

Wedding Details, Details and more Details!

Photobucket MV2F Meredith has a heart of gold. Some of you that read my blog have met Mere, either at Alt Summit or maybe at a blogger networking event. She is unlike anyone I’ve ever met in my life. One of the most thoughtful, giving and generous people I’ve ever known. I believe myself to be quite fortunate to have her in my life.

A few weekends ago Meredith married her sweetheart in a ceremony that took place in a beautiful cathedral in the middle of China Town with a reception that followed at the Exploratorium. As Mere tends to do in her everyday life, she put a lot of time, love and thought into every detail to ensure that those around her would have a good experience.

I can honestly say this was the most detailed wedding that I’ve ever been to! We had an absolute blast! Congrats Meredith and Viet!

P.S.- More about the outfit I wore to the wedding here and a how to on my hair style here!

Easy Caramel Apple DIY

Lately I’ve had a serious sweet tooth and those gorgeous granny smiths were just calling my name!Apple1
Apple2
Apple13

Caramel apples are a great make ahead treat that can be given to guests, served at a party or just a little Saturday afternoon snack if you’re like me.
Material Needed:

-          Granny Smith Apples (tip- look for apples that don’t tilt)

-          Soft Caramel Chews (around 1/3 pound per apple)

-          Toppings (tip- ice cream stores sell toppings which saves $ and you get a better assortment!)

-          Lollipop Sticks

-          Wax Paper

-          Hammer

Directions:

-          Remove the stem and wash and dry your apples

-          Hammer the lollipop stick through the center of the apple

-          In a saucepan, melt your caramel on a super low heat stirring constantly (be patient so as not to burn it)

-          Once the caramel is ready, roll your apple through the hot caramel coating all sides

-          Immediately pour toppings over the outside of the apple

-          Place on wax paper to dry

The process was fairly simple but I might try adding milk next time to make the caramel a bit thinner.

FYI- Don’t touch the caramel before it has had a chance to dry.  It gets hotter than it looks and my finger sure would have appreciated this tip.  Ouch!

Beauty in Bloom

Garden1F
Garden2F
Garden3F I’ve been staying at my mom’s house the past few days. So happy to report that she’s home from the hospital, doing well, the tumor was benign and she is expected to make a full recovery (thank you for your sweet thoughts and words!!!!!).

Since I’ve been here I couldn’t help but notice how absolutely gorgeous her yard is. Flowers bloom everywhere you look and you can tell that she puts a lot of time and love into making her yard so beautiful.

Last night I was playing around in the backyard shooting the flowers and trying to get a few pictures of the dogs when this happened. Yep, we all got wet - because of this, I didn’t have a chance to shoot pictures of her other dog. I may try again tomorrow…..

City Living: Farming on the Fire Escape

Plant Plant1-2 Plant3 Plant2 As a little girl my bedroom was done in a Beatrix Potter theme. Once I hit my preteens my parents let me choose how to redecorate my bedroom and wouldn’t you know, this wild child choose to have a garden theme bedroom!

Honestly, I don’t know where the passion for gardening came from and tending to plants certainly has never been my forte. Recently I decided to try my hand at growing a few simple vegetables on our fire escape.

I’ve planted tomato, basil and lettuce. We’ll see how this goes. Truth be told, I’m not optimistic, but I will certainly try my best!

Hair Tutorial: Undone Half Up-do

I see those girls who can rock a sleeked back ponytail and I’m envious!  My ponytail never looks the way I intend it so I’m always on the hunt for a new way to wear my hair pulled back.  I saw something in a magazine a few weeks back that inspired me to give this undone up-do a go!  It’s super easy, looks pulled together and best of all this do works best when your hair is a little dirty! Hair1

How To – The Undone Up-do
1.       Start with second day hair
2.       FYI - My hair is thin but I have a lot of it and it’s naturally very wavy/frizzy (think Hermione from Harry Potter)
3.       Straighten the front pieces of your hair
4.       Pull your bangs or the pieces you want to leave out forward and comb forward a ½ inch section of hair
5.       Spray your hair behind the pulled forward pieces
6.       Tease your hair behind the pulled forward pieces
7.       Use the smooth pieces that you had pulled forward to cover the teased section of hair
8.       Pin the hair into place as if you were wearing your hair half up
9.       Start pulling back thick pieces from each side of your head and pin to place loosely in the middle
10.   Continue step 9 until you've reached the bottom and tie off with a ponytail holder
11.   Curl the loose pieces at the bottom
12.   Spray to hold and you’re ready to go!

I'm pleased to introduce you to my new go-to hair style! I’ve now worn my hair like this three times over the past week!  So will you be giving the undone up-do a go?

Out of Focus

Photobucket
I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I’m having a serious case of the Mondays, maybe it’s the rain out my window, my workload, the pile of dirty dishes sitting in the sink. Whatever it is, I’m in a funk today. So when I was looking through some of the pictures I’ve taken over the past few weeks, this picture stopped me in my tracks.

It was taken about a week and a half ago when my family and I were up in Big Bear. I was focusing in my margarita, because obviously a drink in hand = a good time. But after looking at this picture more closely I noticed Ginger running around on the beach having a ball, Christoph playing with my nephew in the sand and the breathtakingly beautiful scenery in the background.

Margarita aside, the beauty in this picture is what lies slightly out of focus.
