My Favorite Place to Wine Taste - Chianti Region of Italy

C1f C2f C3f

Coincidentally, our very last day trip while in Italy also happened to be my favorite.  We wanted to do a little wine tasting so we headed to Greve in Chianti.  Lucky for us, that day also happened to be the first day of their yearly wine festival – the Chianti Classico.  For 10 euro we got wine punch cards and wine glasses and were able to taste wine.  The pours were so heavy and the owners were so casual that oftentimes they didn’t even punch your card.  Needless to say, we didn’t even end up using up our punch cards.   We came home with as many bottles of wine as we could and I look forward to opening those bottles and reliving the memories we made that day.

A Few Quick Stops - Italy

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Thanks to our trusty little Smart car, we were able to take a few day trips during our stay in Italian wine country.

Volterra – a gothic little walled in town where we had THE BEST lunch ever and I found this gorgeous little case for my laptop from the 1970’s.

San Gimignano – another walled in town with beautiful views that we were able to take in after hiking to the top of a tower.

Sienna – from sunning in a piazza to hiding out in a leaky church during a downpour, we still managed to have a great time!

A Stop in Lucca, Italy

Lucca Italy Blog Lucca Italy Blog

After our stop in Pisa we spent the day in Lucca – a tiny walled in city with charm for days.  We loved it here.  Beautiful, historic and not crowded with tourists.  We walked along the barrier wall, toured the city’s main church and hiked to the top of yet another tower!  We ate lunch in a tiny ally and then we headed out towards the Chianti region of Italy (my favorite stop of the trip)!

Are you silly? Then go to Pisa, Italy

After our day in in Cinque Terre we headed to Pisa to check out the Leaning Tower and it truly is a site to be seen!

I know you’ve seen the pictures of people pretending to be holding up the Leaning Tower and you think that you wouldn’t subject yourself to looking so silly until you get there and see that EVERYONE is doing it!

So join in!  We certainly did!  But we are pretty silly on a regular basis and I don’t think that anyone that knows us are surprised by these pictures.

We also climbed to the top of the leaning tower, which was a trip highlight.  Because the tower has such a lean, gravity kicks in making it hard to climb up and a bit scary to climb down.  You’ll feel like you’re walking on sea legs after the climb!

After the climb – we headed to a restaurant which ended up being a trip favorite, the location of which I’ll share later!  Pisa was surprisingly good to us!
