Giants, Giants, GIANTS!

In 2007 when Christoph and me started dating, I was a Giants fan by association. He having grown up in San Francisco has been a lifelong fan. Eventually, I grew to love the Giants myself and some of our favorite date nights have taken place at AT&T Park. Giants1F Giants2F
I even got him a brick as a wedding gift. Can you tell, we love to go visit it? I’m so proud of the World Series champion San Francisco Giants and will be one of just a million others standing along Market Street tomorrow cheering them on at the parade.

 Go Giants!

Feels Like Fall

Owl Pumpkin PatternOwl Pumpkin PatternIt’s starting to feel a lot like fall around here! The apple spice candles are burning, I’m drinking chai tea like it’s my job and I carved a pumpkin!

I found it to be the perfect activity while watching the Giants in the World Series! If you follow me on instagram you saw that I sketched out the owl pattern for my pumpkin. I like to first decide what I’m going to carve then shop for the perfect pumpkin.

Hope you are up to some fun fall activities! Happy Halloween!

I noticed a lot of people were googling for "owl pumpkin stencil" so I decided to upload mine for you to download, print and carve!  Enjoy!pumpkin owl stencil download

My Juice Journey

EFFLast week I was invited to a pre-opening event for EvolutionFresh.  Long story short – In the 1970’s Jimmy made money during the summers selling fresh squeezed juice on the beaches of sunny So Cal.  He then founded Naked Juice.  Fast Forward to the 1990’s he starts Evolution Fresh and offers premium juice, fruit smoothies, soups and salads.  Now – Evolution Fresh opens a location on Fillmore Street.

I loved spending my morning tasting their fresh juices.  This was my first time trying greens in liquid form!  Liked it.  The food was surprisingly delicious and filling and made me feel good.  I don’t think I’ve eaten that much fruits and greens…..ever.  I can’t wait to go back and I’m happy to welcome them to San Francisco!

Beach Blanket Doggylon - Starring Ginger

Beach Blanket Babylon costume DoggylonEvery year, I make Ginger a Halloween costume. So far she has been a shark (which won in a costume contest) and a dinosaur. This year I made her the doggy version of the Beach Blanket Babylon finale act!BBB2fThe costume was made from recycled cardboard, foam board and paint.BBB3fAll in all, this took me around three hours to make and cost me just a few dollars as I had most of the material on hand.Beach Blanket Babylon costume DoggyloThe costume looks awesome on her and she actually doesn’t mind wearing it. Also, I’m thinking this could work for me as a costume in the future. Winning all the way around!

Risks & Tasty Rewards

When you’re young and free of big commitments you have the freedom to take risks. Recently, Christoph and me embarked on a risky little venture that I’m so excited to share with you today! We became part owners in a new restaurant that opened last week in Berkeley: Belli OsteriaBelli Osteria homemade ravioliBelli features an ever-changing menu of Northern Italian inspired cuisine – specifically ravioli. Having just spent time in this region of Italy, you can imagine our excitement to sit down and break bread with our new restaurant family. Belli Osteria homemade ravioliI know you think I may be just a bit biased but truth be told, the food is absolutely amazing. Homemade pasta and ravioli made from fresh local ingredients. Food that tastes good and feels good. But if you don’t want to go based on what I’m saying then I urge you to check out their write-ups in Daily Candy, SF Chronicle Blog, Grub Street, Thrillist and Tasting Table.Belli3FIf you go, be sure to let me know what you think!

P.S. – Check out what they’re cooking up fresh over on Facebook!

I decided to try making a spiced pear cake because you can only eat pears for so long without getting bored!spiced pear cake recipe runny brown sugar frostingThe cake turned out to be FANTASTIC! Wedding Chicks: How to Build a Pie Bar

A few months back, I had the pleasure of participating in a pie theme dessert bar photo shoot with the A Savvy Event team.  Let’s just say it was SWEET!  HCPie1F Recently, the lovely team over at the Wedding Chicks shared the photos in a “How to make a pie dessert bar” post!  Click here to see the post and see below for a behind the scenes look at the shoot.

The shoot was a lot of fun to be a part of.  You can bet that I had my fill of pie and then come!  Courtney (last pic/bottom right) did an amazing job on the concept and pulling together a great team to contribute to the shoot!

Wedding Invitations in Less than 24 Hours

Christoph came home from work a few weeks ago and told me that our engaged friends - Tom and Anna were a bit stressed out about their wedding invitations. The wedding was just two months away and they didn’t know where to start with wedding invitations.

We made plans for them to stop by our apartment that weekend and within 24 hours I had their invitations designed, printed and completed! Phew! Talk about a rush order! But, sometimes it’s nice to finish projects before you even have time to think about starting.

While this isn’t my typical design aesthetic, I do like how they turned out and Tom and Anna loved them!

Where to Stay While Traveling

AirBnb travel where to stay Italy airbnb travel where to stay ItalySometimes the place you stay can make or break a vacation.  Case in point – the first time Christoph and me traveled together internationally we learned that air conditioning is for me, a necessary - not compromise.  In my defense we were in Costa Rica, it was HOT and our windows didn’t have screens and we had to keep them closed.  Sorry, dengue fever and malaria are low on my souvenir list.

Since then, we’ve traveled the globe and we’ve stayed in some amazing locations.  Most of the places we stayed for our trip to Italy were booked through Airbnb and we had THE BEST experience!

In the Chianti Region we stayed in this dream setting on a vineyard. We were greeted by the host with a bottle of wine made from the owner’s grapes. The house was situated atop a small hill surrounded by sprawling vineyards – everywhere you looked was another gorgeous view.  Obviously from the pictures you can see that we made good use of the pool. This place is an absolute gem and I hope to visit again in the future.

We had a very pleasant stay in Sabrina’s family B and B. The location was outside of the walls of Lucca (a short 10 minute walk). We had a car and parking was very easy. Our room was clean, the Internet connection was strong and the breakfast was simple. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We had a lovely stay in Florence! Marta greeted us with a bottle of wine and had the fridge stocked with fresh milk and orange juice. The apartment was wonderful (clean, functional and a great location).   Once you’re in the heart of Florence everything is very walk-able!  We loved it.

If you’re traveling to Italy….or anywhere I would highly recommend AirBnb!
